More or less already given up on by other veterinarians with the words, “I don’t know what else to do — contact us when we need to put him to sleep,” Lino Löwe and I went to see Dr. Backhaus.

Lino had suddenly developed a severe anaemia, and no one could tell us why. It became so bad that his platelet count dropped to 0 (!) despite cortisone and antibiotics. Three weeks ago, we began the autologous blood treatment with Dr. Backhaus. Thanks to the dark-field analysis, we now finally know what is going on in Lino’s blood.

Now he is diligently regenerating platelets again. The improvement was clearly visible in the dark-field microscopy images. He is eating on his own again, and he is also accepting the vital supplements well. Even though it will still take time until he is fully out of danger — and I am aware that it may be too early to celebrate — we are more than convinced by the holistic methods of this practice.

The practice itself is very welcoming; the rooms are clean and beautifully furnished (with a dog bed and plenty of seating).
A huge compliment to the entire team, especially to Dr. Backhaus for taking so much time to explain the processes, therapies, and results, and to Dr. Kusterer and Ms. Bohn, who cared for my little lion with great patience and affection (even if the fine lord might see it differently). You feel included in the treatment; worries and fears are taken seriously.

Also worth mentioning is the excellent online consultation by Dr. Haase, who advised me thoroughly and with great clarity. I truly feel that every team member gives their all and genuinely cares about the well-being of the animals.
