Vital blood analysis under the dark field microscope

With the dark field method, we gain a unique insight into the internal environment of the blood – often long before conventional laboratory values become abnormal.

What is dark field analysis?

Dark field analysis is a special form of blood examination in which a single drop of capillary blood is observed alive under a special microscope. In contrast to conventional laboratory analyses, we do not only see numerical values but also the condition and behavior of the cells in real time – a fascinating glimpse into your animal’s inner balance.

Why a dark field analysis?

Many chronic or recurring complaints cannot be detected in a normal blood count. Dark field analysis enables us to:

  • Detect early signs of regulatory disorders
  • Assess the vitality and quality of blood cells
  • Find indications of metabolic stress, heavy metals, over-acidification, bacterial loads, or parasites
  • Assess your animal’s current detoxification and immune status
  • Make therapy progress visible – even in cases considered untreatable in conventional medicine

Holistic thinking – individual treatment

Darkfield microscopy is an integral part of our holistic health diagnostics. By observing the blood alive under the microscope, we gain valuable insights into the overall condition of the organism.

Ideally, the blood picture appears vibrant: round, freely flowing red blood cells, active white blood cells, and no signs of toxins, parasites or other disturbances. In practice, however, we often see very different patterns – indicators of regulatory imbalances, stressors or weakened immune function.

This is exactly what makes darkfield analysis so valuable: it reveals what is otherwise invisible and shows how well the animal is able to regulate. The images are not only helpful for diagnosis, but also for monitoring progress. After only a few weeks of holistic treatment, clear improvements can often be seen – directly visible in the blood.

Combined with a detailed medical history, an assessment of organ dynamics based on our 5-E™ system, and additional laboratory values, this creates a comprehensive picture of your animal’s health – the basis for an individual and sustainable therapy.

For which animals is the analysis suitable?

Our vital blood analysis is particularly helpful for:

  • Dogs, cats and horses with chronic conditions, allergies or skin problems
  • Animals with non-specific symptoms such as fatigue, digestive issues or susceptibility to infections
  • Animals with unexplained pain, lameness or metabolic disorders
  • Early preventive screenings – even in young animals

How the darkfield analysis works

  1. Blood sampling
The blood sample can be collected directly in our practice – ideally venous, as this provides the best image quality (must be performed by a veterinarian).
Alternatively, you can order a home test kit: in this case, a small drop of capillary blood (e.g., from the ear) is sufficient and can be sent to us by mail.

  2. Microscopic analysis
Evaluation is performed under the darkfield microscope by an experienced veterinarian or veterinary practitioner specialized in this method.

  3. Discussion of findings
If you visit us on site, we review the images with you immediately – and you receive the recordings for your documentation.
If you send in the sample, you will receive a detailed report with the microscopic images and a veterinary assessment. The results are discussed via an online consultation with one of our veterinarians.

  4. Individual therapy recommendation
Based on the analysis, you receive a tailored treatment plan – whether herbal or nutritional supplements, targeted nutrition, supportive detoxification or other measures aligned with our 5-E™ system.

Scientific Background

Darkfield microscopy goes back to the work of Prof. Dr. Günther Enderlein, and the method has been continuously refined over the past decades. In modern holistic veterinary medicine, it is used as a complementary diagnostic tool to detect functional imbalances within the organism.

Veterinarian Thomas Backhaus has more than 30 years of experience with this diagnostic method and is considered one of the leading specialists in this field. His extensive expertise allows the darkfield analysis to be integrated precisely into holistic diagnostic and therapeutic concepts.
